The chewing surfaces of back teeth have deep grooves where bacteria and food easily get trapped. Dental sealants are a thin protective coating painted onto those surfaces — sealing out decay before it starts.

Sealants are most often used for children's permanent molars, but adults at higher risk of decay benefit from them too. Application is quick and pain-free.
