About this care

About Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that typically emerge in the late teens or early twenties. When there’s not enough space in the jaw, they can become impacted — pushing on neighboring teeth, causing pain, or trapping bacteria.

Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed. We’ll use 3D imaging to evaluate yours and recommend extraction only when there’s a clinical reason.

What to Expect When a Wisdom Tooth Comes Out

01

Exam & X-Ray

We check the position of the wisdom tooth with an X-ray, then numb the area with a local anesthetic (numbing medicine).

02

Gum Opened

A small flap of gum is gently moved aside so the tooth can be reached.

03

Removed in Pieces

When needed, a little bone around the tooth is removed and the tooth is divided into smaller pieces so it comes out with less pressure on the jaw.

04

Stitches & Healing

A few stitches may be used to close the gum. Some swelling is common after removal, and the area keeps healing afterward.
